Billy Lewallen, age 64, of Cornelia, passed away Monday, April 05, 2010, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Habersham County on September 06, 1945, he was the son of the late Corbin & Jerrie Mae Alexander Lewallen. Billy was retired from Habersham Metal with 32 years of dedicated service. After retirement, he was employed with KenBar Manufacturing for several years. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and he was a sports enthusiast who loved the Georgia Bulldogs. He also was a past master of Cornelia Masonic Lodge #92 F. & A. M. and he loved being outdoors. Billy was active in the Habersham County Recreation Department where he was named Coach of the Year on several different occasions. Most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Lee Young Lewallen.
Surviving are wife of 45 years, Laverne H. Lewallen of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Misty & Eric Rogers of Baldwin; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Greg & Melanie Lewallen of Clermont; sisters, Geraldine Perry of Baldwin and Janice Hurt and Willie Mae Crocker both of Cornelia; brother, Bobby Russum of Cornelia; grandchildren, Corbin Lewallen, Alden Lewallen, Madison Rogers, McKinsey Rogers and Dayden Rogers.
Funeral services are 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 07, 2010, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Phillip Yarber, Rev. Vaughn Howington, Jr. and Rev. Greg Lewallen officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Roy Lee Mitchell officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Tuesday. The family is at the residence of sister, Willie Mae Crocker, 148 Free Drive, Cornelia, GA 30531.
