Charles E. Parks, 79 of Murrayville died Saturday April 3, 2010 at his residence following a period of declining health.
A native of Lumpkin County, he lived most of his life in Hall County. He owned and operated Parks Lumber Company for a number of years and continued in the lumber and building supplies business for over 50 years. He served as a director for the United Community Bank where he played a large role in bringing branches to Lumpkin and Hall Counties. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Dahlonega. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Parks is preceded in death by his parents, J. Ode and Della Green Parks.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Parks of Murrayville, sons and daughters-in-law; Steve and Dawn Parks and Jim and Kim Parks both of Murrayville, grandchildren; Chelsey Parks Potts and Kyle of Jefferson, Brittni Park Curtis and Chris, Katelyn Parks, Charlie Parks, Olivia Parks, Jake Parks, Tyler Wiley, Courtney Wiley, Brenden Jarrard, Luke Jarrard all of Murrayville; sister Barbara Southers of Murrayville.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Yellow Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Garvice Kinsey, Rev. Ricky Stone, and Rev. Dean Bryant will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday April 5, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and again from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Interment will be in Yellow Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 14 Martins Ford Rd, Dahlonega, GA 30533 or to Eagle Ranch, P.O. Box 7200 Chestnut Mountain, GA 30502.
