Christine Tench Hughes, age 72 of Demorest, passed on Thursday, April 1, 2010, at her residence following an extended illness.
Born in Habersham County on April 4, 1937, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna McConnell Tench. She was employed with Scovill Manufacturing for several years and then served as a Licensed Practical Nurse, where she retired, with 20 plus years of service. She was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church and her hobbies included singing, flowers, gardening, painting and care giving. She was also an avid cat lover. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Audrey Carol Hughes; sister, Hortense Loggins; and brother, Bryant Tench.
Surviving are husband, Charles W. Hughes of Demorest; daughter and son-in-law, Shelia and Troy Kisner of Demorest; son and daughter-in-law, Farrell and Karen Hughes of Demorest; brother, Richard Tench of Washington, GA; sisters, Flora Maney and Charlotte Underwood of Demorest; grandchildren, Kristie Norton of Alto and Richie Warwick of Demorest, Kasie Hughes, Robbie Hughes of Demorest, Travis Wade who was also raised in the home; great-grandchildren, Rachel Norton and David Norton.
Funeral services are 11:00 am Saturday, April 3, 2010, from the chapel of McGahee-Griffin-Stewart with Rev. Wesley Purcell and Rev. Kevin Mathis officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 pm on Friday, April 2nd. The family is at the residence.
