Mr.Cread Thomas Dyer

Mr. Cread Thomas Dyer, age 90, of Helen passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Dyer was born on February 11, 1920 in White County to the late Jefferson B. and Hassie Crumley Dyer. He was preceded in death by his son, Allan Dyer; sisters, Ethel Cagle and Roselee Ledford; brothers, Pat Dyer, Paul Dyer, James Dyer and J.E. Dyer. Mr. Dyer was a WWII Army Veteran who received the Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with Bronze Star, American Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a farmer and school bus driver for Nacoochee School and White County schools for 45 years. He received the Outstanding Conservation Farmer Award of White in 1973, the Upper Chattahoochee River Soil and Water Conservation Farm Award in 1976 and inducted into the White County Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2006. He loved farming and lived his entire life on the farm where he was born. He was a natural conservationist and a member of Center Baptist Church in Robertstown.

Survivors include his former wife, Vie Dyer Faulkner and their children, daughters and sons-in-law, Dale and Ray Branson, Meryl and Jerry Bentley; daughter, Vivian Rider; grandchildren, Allison Dyer, Christopher Dyer, Billy Kimsey, Barton Kimsey, Matthew Rider, Caroline Rider Nix, Mark Rider; sister-in-law, Susie Dyer; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Monday, March 29, 2010 from Gateway Memory Park Cemetery with full Military Honors. The Rev. Verner London will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 P.M. & 6:00-8:00 P.M. Sunday, March 28th at the funeral home.
