Funeral services for Jerry Q. Ramey, age 91, of Clarkesville will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 2:00 PM from the Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville. Rev. Milton Harris will officiate with burial to follow the service in Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Tiger.
Mr. Ramey passed away Friday, March 18, 2010 following an extended illness.
Born in Rabun County on March 9, 1919, Mr. Ramey was the son of the late Adolfus and Minnie Watts Ramey. Mr. Ramey was drafted by the Civilian Conservation Corps and he worked on many projects that he enjoyed including state parks, fire towers for the forestry service, and Old Highway 441 around Tallulah Gorge. He was later drafted in the United States Army and served during World War II. He then worked and retired from Clarkesville Mill where he was a Weaver. Mr. Ramey was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and he also attended Shirley Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Holcomb Ramey, son Danny Ramey, brothers Albert and Burton Ramey, and sisters Ruby Cullinbach, Delores Tyler, Ada Crone, and Ella Mae Carpenter.
Survivors include daughter and son in law Judy and Steve Medlin of Eastanollee, sons and daughters in law Ronald and Laina Ramey of Mt. Airy, Curtis and Emily Ramey of Toccoa, Greg and Lynn Ramey of Clarkesville, and Larry and Diane Ramey of Piedmont, South Carolina, brother Junior Ramey of Baldwin, sister Lizzie Wilson of Tiger, grandchildren Kevin Ramey, T.J. Ramey, Matthew Ramey, Tanya Ramey, Bobby Ramey, Jerry Ramey, Timothy Ramey, Angela Cornett, Christie Crump, Kayla Weaver, Penny Downer, Lisa Moore, and Stephanie McLain, as well as 25 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, 5495 Highway 197 South, Clarkesville, on Friday, March 19, 2010 from 7-9 PM.
