Jimmy Walker Sr.,

Mr.age 81, of Dahlonega, Ga. died Sunday March 14, 2010.

Mr. Walker was a native of Lumpkin County and contributed most of his adult life to the International Brotherhood of Firemen and Oilers Union, including the labor movement. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines, Army Transport Service from December 1945 to October 1958. He became a member of the labor movement November 1958 and worked in that capacity in various positions until retiring in 2000. He served as shop steward, business agent, international representative, international vice president, executive VP and International President. He was a Mason. Mr. Walker was a very caring and giving man, always putting others before himself. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Pidgeon Walker; mother, Noma Walker; and his brother Jack Walker.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy Jr. and Joy Walker, Wade and Sherry Walker, all of Dahlonega; son, Bill Walker, Dawsonville, Ga.; grandchildren, Wesley Walker and Brittany Walker, both of Dawsonville, Brandi and Ryan Holloway, Blue Ridge, Ga.; 2 great-grandchildren, Emma Holloway and Reid Walker Holloway; special friend, Tracey Berry, Dahlonega, Ga.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Tuesday March 16, 2010 at the Dahlonega United Methodist Church. Rev. Jeff Ross and Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Yahoola Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 PM until 9 PM Monday March 15, 2010.
