Kate Lord Cochran, 93, died early Friday morning, February 19 after a brief illness. She was a resident of Gainesville from 1950 until her death. Mrs. Cochran was born October 10, 1916, in Athens,GA to Claude and Auby Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Cochran, also a resident of Gainesville.
Mrs. Cochran, along with her husband, owned and operated Cochran's Grocery Store on Thompson Bridge Road for many years before selling the business to Colonial Stores. The couple then developed and operated a shopping center in that same area which now houses the Publix store and four other businesses. She was active in community affairs and with her church. Mrs. Cochran was a member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church and the Angler Sunday School Class.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Cecilia Cochran Hendrix & Sam of Signal Mountain, TN, and Robin Cochran Lowe & Archie of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Whitney Hendrix of Garner, NC, Brad Hendrix of Chattanooga, TN, Fortune Lowe of Atlanta, and Kate Lowe of Atlanta; and three sisters, Mrs. Jim Roberts, Mrs. Bettie Walters both of Atlanta, and Mrs. Anne Stewart of Griffin.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday February 22 at Saint Paul United Methodist Church. Christian Minister Steve Cox, Mrs. Cochran's nephew, will officiate and burial will be immediately afterward at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the church one hour prior to the service.
