Dixie Chester Ramsey was born on June 10, 1924. She lived in Hall County most of her life. She attended Gainesville High School, Brenau College, and The University of California in San Francisco.
Dixie married Wilbur Ramsey on July 7, 1941 at Camp Croft South Carolina, shortly before Wilbur left for World War II. During the war Dixie lived in San Francisco, and worked as a telegraph operator for the United States Government.
The community was blessed to have Dixie play a vital part to its success. Her activities in the community were numerous. She was president of Northside Garden Club, president of Crabapple Garden Club, president of Hall County Garden Club Council, and a board member of the Garden Club of Georgia.
Additionally, she was on the advisory board to the Hall County Agents, Girl Scout leader, FHA Hall County representative, Horse Show publications reporter, on the Quinlin Visual Arts Center Board, and on the Elachee Nature Center Board. She was on the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Auxiliary Board, Brenau University board of Visitors, the 1996 Olympic beautification committee, the board of Hall Clean Council, Hall County chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee, The Hall County Sanitation Committee, Chairman of the Hall County Library Board, and Board member of the Northeast Georgia History Center. She also taught Sunday school at Grace Episcopal Church.
Dixie mentored many young girls over her lifetime, and was passionate about helping those in need. In the 1970â
