"Gregory" Alan Martin, Jr.

Obituary Date: Saturday, January 30, 2010
"Gregory" Alan Martin, Jr., our precious son, brother and grandson, died peacefully on January 30th, 2010. Born on March 10, 1983, he grew up sharing hobbies with his dad, loving his mom and pestering his older sister. He lived for the outdoors (soccer, motorcycling, mountain biking, waterboarding, skiing, camping and hiking). He expressed his athletic talent through soccer and earned a full scholarship to Truett-McConnell College (Cleveland, GA) in 2001. Gregory enjoyed traveling and spent many months in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and other parts of the west. He adored his grandparents, Milton, Sr. and Damaris Martin and his two favorite aunts, Malinda and Joyce. Later in life, Gregory channeled his extra love and affection to a special West Highland Terrier named Winchester, where he earned the dog's undying loyalty and devotion.

Survivors include his father, Gregory Alan Martin, Sr.; his mother, Judy M. Martin; older sister, Jennifer Lynn Martin and grandparents, Milton Sr. and Damaris Martin, all of Gainesville; and of course, Winchester, the beloved dog.

Gregory also faced the challenges and dark moments of an addict. By the grace of God, his loving core never diminished and he expressed his enormous love for God and his family every day. To know him was to love him. He never met a stranger, loved deeply and lived life with passion. We will miss him every minute of every day, but we know he is finally at peace and we will cherish the 26 years God let us borrow him.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2010 at the Lakewood Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Tom Smiley and Pastor Robin Martin will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hillside Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the Little & Davenport Funeral Home on Thursday, February 4, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and again from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
