Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Ernest Jerry Pickens, age 69, of Maysville, who passed away on January 18, 2010. Mr. Pickens was born on December 18, 1949 in Truman, Arkansas, a son to the late Ernest C. Pickens Jr. and the late Hildreth Cox Pickens. Mr. Pickens was a Respiratory Therapist for 50 years. He worked at Shallowford Hospital, was a Department Head at Gwinnett Medical Center, and recently worked at Northeast GA Medical Center. He attended Montgomery Heights Baptist Church in Commerce. His brother, Thomas E. Pickens, preceded him in death.
Survivors include wife, Sue Pickens, Maysville; children, Kim and Tim Jones, Jackson, TN, Chris and Cindy Pickens, Jackson, TN, Sandy and Steve Bates, Braselton; sister, Patricia R. Whitehorn, Hope, MS; grandchildren, Wesley and Kendall Jones, Kristen, Kallie and Suzanna Pickens, Beth Bates, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Rev. James Dumas and Rev. Jeff Thompson officiating. The burial will follow in the Jackson Memorial Park with Steve Bates, Tim Jones, Anthony Alexander, Raphael Ramierez, Steve Musselwhite and Danny Black honored as pallbearers. The visitation will begin on 12:00 pm, Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the funeral home.
