Floyd Charles Stancil, age 60, of Cornelia and formerly of Lakemont, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Born in Rabun County on April 23, 1949, he was the son of the late R. L. and Gladys Smith Stancil. Mr. Stancil was currently employed at Scovill Manufacturing where he was a welder in the maintenance department for 30 plus years. He was a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church in Rabun County and attended Maysville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed singing at various bluegrass festivals. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, George W. Marcus.
Surviving are wife, Rita Marcus Stancil of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Celena & Alan Scheon of the Fairview Community; daughters, Erin Stancil and Charlah Stancil, both of Lakemont; son and daughter-in-law, Scotty & Tara Marcus of Cumming; mother-in-law, Geraldine Marcus of Demorest; he is also survived by four grandchildren.
Funeral services are 2:00 pm Saturday, January 16, 2010, from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Dugar Strickland and Rev. Tim Hunnicutt officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with Rev. Michael Clarke officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday. The family is at the residence.
