Dorothy Delong Maynard

Obituary Date: Tuesday, December 15, 2009
Dorothy Delong Maynard, 99, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2009, while a resident of Fidelia Eckerd Living Center in Highlands, North Carolina. Mrs. Maynard was a lifelong resident of Gainesville until her recent residence in Highlands.

Graveside services are scheduled for Thursday, December 17, at 2:00 pm in Alta Vista Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Christy of the Highlands United Methodist Church will officiate.

Mrs. Maynard, loving mother and grandmother, was born March 31, 1910, in Hall county to the late John Reeves Delong and Sadie Elizabeth Hulsey Delong. She was a graduate of the State Normal Teachers School in Athens, Georgia. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church for over 70 years. She was first a member of the Euzelan Sunday Class and later a member of the Bykota Class in the current church. Mrs. Maynard was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Alvin Claude Maynard; brothers, Kelsey, George, and Hayne Delong; and sisters, Hortense Randolf, Winnie Clark, and Betty Parker.

Mrs. Maynard is survived by her daughter, Margo Franklin and son-in-law Julian Franklin, of Highlands, North Carolina; grandson Richard Franklin, his wife Jennifer and children Max and Sarah of Kathleen, Georgia and granddaughter Pamela Carver, her husband Chuck and children Monica, Laura, and Sam of Atlanta, Georgia, and a number of special nieces and nephews.
