Walter Franklin Holcomb

Funeral services for Walter Franklin Holcomb, age 85, of Clarkesville, will be held on Friday, November 27, 2009, at 11:00 AM from the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clarkesville. Dr. Bill Cashion and Rev. Furman Lewis will officiate with burial to follow the service in the church cemetery.

Mr. Holcomb passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at his residence following a period of declining health.

Born in Habersham County on March 2, 1924, Mr. Holcomb was the son of the late George Burton and Cora Trotter Holcomb. He was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II in the European Theatre alongside Patton with the 36th Infantry Division. Mr. Holcomb was a manager at Standard Telephone Company and he was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Mr. Holcomb was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and hike, and he was a master fly fisherman. Mr. Holcomb also enjoyed raising cattle and woodworking. He was also a member of Woodmen of the World and the Pioneer Club of Standard Telephone. Mr. Holcomb enjoyed visiting World War II families and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Holcomb is preceded in death by sisters Louise Burke and Zelma Kennimer, brother James Holcomb and son in law Clinton Hicks.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Geraldine Pardue Holcomb of Clarkesville, daughter Deborah Hicks of Demorest, son and daughter in law Douglas W. and Sue Holcomb and son George â
