Betty Tillerson

Obituary Date: Monday, November 16, 2009
Mrs. Betty Lee Tillerson passed on to her Lord this past Monday, November 16, 2009, surrounded by family and friends at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born Annie Betty Lee Pitts in Murray County, Georgia, on September 24, 1936, Betty was the oldest of 8 siblings born to John and Winnie Pitts. Betty, as she was lovingly known, lived a life renowned for her deep love of the Lord Jesus, and all who were blessed to meet her became friends and admirers as they walked with her in His name.

A faithful and active member of Free Chapel in Gainesville, Betty was known to all as a loving, caring, and dedicated disciple of Christ, and stories abound of her generosity and giving spirit. A graduate of Sonoraville High School and a retiree of the Cobb County School Board, Betty gave freely of her time to those in need, and our angel of goodness was constantly engaged in helping others.

She and Fred, her husband of 53 years, maintained a garden at their home in Gainesville that became a way of life highlighted by happiness, sharing, and a coming together of loving people from all walks of life.

Betty is survived by Fred Tillerson, son Lamar and his wife Martha of Marietta, daughter Tina Montrois and her husband David of Gainesville, and son Steve and his wife Kathy of Smryna. An endless joy to Betty were her grandchildren Matthew, Jessica, Zachary, and Jeffrey Tillerson, and Christina, Rachel, and Megan Montrois. Brothers include Lewis, Clifford, Grady, Walter, Ray, and Jimmy (deceased) Pitts, and sister Lorene Bennett. Also much loved by Betty was her Goddaughter Sherry and her husband Mike Wilson of Cumming, and their children Morgan and Andrew.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday Nov. 20, 2009 at the Free Chapel Worship Center with Rev. Katie Lancaster, Rev. R.L. Puckett, and Rev. Mike Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 Thursday Nov. 19, 2009 at the Mason & Ward Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 409410 Atlanta, Georgia 30384-9410 or New Beginings Ministries, 1258 Greater Hope Road, Martin, Georgia 30557.
