James S. (Jimmy) Johnson

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of James S. (Jimmy) Johnson, age 87, who passed away Friday, November 13, 2009 at his residence in Jefferson, Georgia. Born in the Galilee Community of Jefferson he was the son of the late, James Augustus and Emma Carlton Johnson. Mr. Johnson was married February 15, 1948 in Atlanta, Georgia to Ruth Copeland of Manchester, Georgia. They were married 61 years and had four children. He was a member of Galilee Church for 77 years, serving as Sunday School Superintendant and as a Deacon for 25 years. A life long farmer, he was born, raised, and operated the family cattle, hog, crop, and poultry farm. Looking to diversify the original cotton and ginning operation started by his father, he began a purebred angus cattle herd as an FFA project in high school in 1938. His herd is one of the earliest started and longest continuous herds in the state. In the late 50â
