Jessie Lee Brackett Hudson

Obituary Date: Monday, November 9, 2009
Jessie Lee Brackett Hudson slipped gently from this life to the next on November 9, 2009 at her home in Dahlonega. By God's Grace, she was surrounded by loved ones, which was her desire. She had been in a period of declining health. Jessie was born October 28th, 1920 in Blue Ridge, GA to Ernest and Radie Brackett and spent her formative years there.

She moved to the Atlanta area as an adult and spent many happy years living in Hapeville, where she and Tom (Thomas Charlton Hudson, JR), her late husband, raised their 4 children. They moved to Dahlonega in 1980. Jessie was always active in community service and was a great supporter of her adopted towns of Hapeville and Dahlonega. She was very active in the Hapeville Ladies Lion Club and served in various capacities, including club president. She was honored by them several times for her dedication and commitment. Once in Dahlonega, she quickly focused her community service spirit on the Dahlonega Woman's Club. She held several leadership positions, including club president. She was honored by the club for her outstanding contributions. She was also an avid supporter of the Community Helping Place. Until failing health intervened, she was active in the Dahlonega Baptist Church.

Jessie will be long remembered for her tireless and generous support of those in need in her community, for her fierce love of family and friends, and for her loyal encouragement to those who were so fortunate to have earned her respect. She was ever the champion of the voiceless, the forgotten and the "spunky underdog".

She is survived by her brother, Michael Brackett (Elva) of Tucker, sisters Helen Brackett and Arlene Wilson of Charlotte, NC.; daughters Ellen Ketchum (David) of Danielsville, GA. , Edie Woodard (Rick) and Leah Ratzel (Steve) of Dahlonega, and son Gerald Hudson (Laura) of Marble Falls, TX; grandchildren Jay Stone (Mariana) of Dahlonega, Jennifer Stone Erdin (Bobby) of Concord, NC, Greg Ratzel (Marilyn) of Atlanta, Ginger Hudson Austin TX, Gerald Hudson, JR Austin, TX, and Vicky Smith (Curtis) of Wichita, KS; and 6 great-grand children.

Services are at Banisters Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Saturday, November 14th at 11AM.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 13th from 5PM until 8PM at Banisterâ
