Geraldine Coker Smith

Geraldine (Jerry) Coker Smith, born September 14, 1925, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on October 4, 2009, she was 84. Born in Magee, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Theo Coker and Pauline McNair Simmons. She had resided in Gainesville for the past 13 years, where she had logged thousands of hours as a volunteer at North East Georgia Medical Center. She was a member of the Pilot Club and the Georgia Mountain Players, where she spent many hours volunteering at the season ticket desk. Before retiring in Gainesville, she worked 24 years in property management in Melbourne, Florida, Houston, Texas, and Denver, Colorado. Prior to that, she owned Coker's House of Fabrics in Fredrick, Maryland. Before moving to Maryland she worked as a dental hygienist in Dothan, Alabama. In her early years, she was a dance instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband William Edward Smith.
Survivors include, Son & Daughter-in-law Richard Smith & Catz McLean of Overland Park, Kansas; Daughter & Son-in-law Dianne & Michael Martin of Gainesville, Georgia; Brother & Sister-in-law, John & Fran Coker of Myersville, Maryland. Grandchildren, Michelle Martin, Kym Maddox and Grandson-in-law, Mickey Maddox; Great grandchildren Alex Maddox, Lauren Maddox, and Jarod Maddox all of Gainesville, Georgia;
Visitation will be at 1pm on Thursday, October 8th at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home and graveside services will be held at 3pm Thursday October 8th in Magee Cemetery in Magee, Mississippi.
