Richard Emmett Wood, Sr.

Mr. Richard Emmett Wood, Sr., age 61, of Jefferson, passed away on September 27, 2009.


Mr. Wood, born in Gwinnett County, was a son of the late William Daniel Wood, Sr. and the late, Minnie Lenora Massey Wood. He was owner of Richard E. Wood Grading and Development, a member of Norcross Tabernacle and the Buford Masonic Lodge #292. His real passion in life was his family and tending to his cattle on the Wood Farm. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his brothers, William D. Wood, Jr. and Harold A. Wood and sister, Mary Chatham.


Survivors include his wife, Linda Jo Plott Wood of Jefferson; daughter Karen Wood Roberts and her husband Marty of Jefferson; sons Richard Emmett Wood, Jr. and his wife Melanie, Kenneth Daniel Wood and his wife Allison, and Phillip Anthony Wood, all of Jefferson; brothers, Charles E. Wood, Sr. of Buford, Larry E. Wood of Norcross, Anthony L. Wood of Suwanee, and Rev. Frank A. Wood of Flowery Branch; sisters Peggy Hinson of Duluth and Shirley Williams of Snellville; grandchildren Morgan Wood, Cole Wood, Kylee Roberts, Dawson Wood, Will Wood, Blake Roberts, Clayton Wood, Collin Wood, and Addyson Wood.


Funeral Services will be held 12 PM Wednesday, September 30, 2009 from the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Wood and Rev. Doug Chatham officiating. Interment will follow in Evans Memory Gardens, Jefferson. Serving as pallbearers will be Keith Wood, Waylon Hoge, Jared Bailey, Lee Wood, Benji Wood, and Jimmy Wood.


The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9 PM at Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, Georgia.
