Gordon William Veal
Obituary Date: Monday, September 21, 2009
Mr. Gordon William Veal, age 86, of Gainesville went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ following a period of declining health on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009.
Mr. Veal was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Levartha, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage; his parents, Coy and Laura Freeman Veal; his brothers, Ralph, Buddy, Otho, and Ugene; and his sister, Christine Veal Watkins.
Mr. Veal was born Feb. 8, 1923, in Banks County. He was employed with Milliken & Company as a supervisor retiring on Sept. 12, 1986, after 43 years if service. Mr. Veal helped organize Faith Baptist Church of Gainesville in 1959, and was a longtime member of Sardis Baptist Church. He served many positions in the Lord's service, such as ordained deacon, Sunday school teacher, church treasurer, and choir leader. He was a loving husband and father and will be leaving his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren a legacy of faith, honor, and hope in the Lord Jesus Christ which is more precious that silver and gold and will last an eternity.
Survivors include his four loving children, Brenda Hamilton, Kathy Veal of Gainesville, Becky Adams and her husband, Gary of Cleveland, and Marlon Veal and his wife, Molly of Gainesville; grandchildren, Michele Poole Clark and her husband, Donny of Winder, Scott Poole and his wife, Tara of Murrayville, Heather Ellis and her husband, Jon of Columbus, Amber Ferguson and her husband, Amos of Cleveland, and Emily and Hasten Veal of Gainesville; great-grandchildren, Cortney Poole, Dale, Josie, and Cade Ellis, Breasha and Keeley McCrary, and Patricia, Rachel, and Dianna Clark; sisters, Mrs. Willard (Rozena) Webb of Gainesville, Mrs. Richard (Betty Jean) Webb of Gainesville, Mrs. Horace (Dolline) Maddox of Gainesville, and Mrs. Thomas (June) Bond of Cleveland; brother and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Sardis Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Scott Culpepper and the Rev. Chris Anderson will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, and Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
