Bertie Carter Ward

Bertie Carter Ward, age 94, of Cornelia, GA, died Saturday, September 5, 2009 at her residence.

Mrs. Ward was born on February 19, 1915 in Stephens County, Georgia to the late William David and Rebecca Drucilla Friar Carter. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dorsey Ward, a son, Joe Ward, and a son-in-law, Stuart Holland. Mrs. Ward was a member of the Cornelia Christian Church and was a homemaker. She loved reading and being outside working with her flowers.

Survivors include: her daughter: Gladys Holland, Cornelia, GA; her daughter and son-in-law: Barbara and Dan Dean, Cornelia, GA; her daughter-in-law: Betty Ward, Sparr, FL; her sister: Lillie Bentley, Cornelia, GA; her sister-in-law: Bertha Smith, Toccoa, GA; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Chandler and Francine Ward, Cornelia, GA; her brother-in-law: Edward Kesler, Toccoa, GA; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 from the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia with Mr. David Terrell and Mr. Grant Bentley officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with Rev. Kent Thomason officiating at the graveside.

The family will receive friends at the North Chapel from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday.
