Roy Eugene Franklin, age 66 of Clarkesville, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at Emory University Hospital following an extended illness.
Born in Habersham County on March 10, 1943, he was the son of the late Eugene and Sarah Alexander Franklin. Mr. Franklin was a charter member of Victory Baptist Church and was a poultry and cattle farmer. He was also a former electrician and worked part-time at The Carpet Store in Cleveland installing central vacuum systems. Mr. Franklin served in the U.S. Army Reserves and he served on the board of directors at Habersham County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents Mr. Franklin is also preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Bobby Hall.
Surviving are wife of 47 years, Martha Lovell Franklin of Clarkesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Don Black of Cleveland and Gina and Jason Brown of Worcester, Mass; brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Melanie Franklin of Powder Springs, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Yvonne and Raymond Rudeseal of Mt. Airy; three grandchildren, Ethan Black, Caroline Black and Seth Brown; also numerous nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services are 2:00 pm Friday, August 21, 2009, from Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Austin Kelley and Rev. Connie Berry officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. David Nix officiating and full military honors provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, Rabun County DAV Chapter #15 and the American Legion Post #84. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Thursday.
