Carl Armstrong

Funeral services for Carl Armstrong, age 79, of Clarkesville, will be held on Friday, August 7, 2009, at 3:00 PM from the Hillside Memorial Chapel with Rev. Charles Taylor and Rev. Russ Barker officiating. Burial will follow the service on Sunday, August 9, 2009 in the Fitzhugh Cemetery in Lewisburg, Kentucky.

Mr. Armstrong passed away at his residence on August 1, 2009, following an extended illness.

Born September 9, 1929, Mr. Armstrong was the son of the late Pearl and Laura Hayes Armstrong. Carl graduated from Breathitt High School in 1946. He served two years in the United States Army attaining the rank of Corporal. Mr. Armstrong retired from General Motors with 35 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Sara Armstrong of the Home, daughters Patricia S. Doherty of Connecticut, Julie Bilbrey of Ohio, Jessie Kanzler of Indiana, and Jill McClanahan of Texas, sister in law Trish Day of Athens, nine grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren..

The family will receive friends at the funeral home, 5495 Hwy 197 S., Clarkesville, on Thursday, August 6, 2009, from 7-9 PM.
