William Joseph Flournoy

William Joseph Flournoy, age 90 of Cornelia, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at the Oaks at Scenic View.

Born in Montgomery, Alabama on November 27, 1918, he was the son of the late Joel and Bessie Harris Flournoy. Mr. Flournoy was a retired construction superintendent with 45 years of service and he also served his country proudly in the United States Army during WWII. He was of the Holiness faith and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are wife of 63 years, Jeanette Purdy Flournoy of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Joan & Chester Garner of Groves, TX; daughter, Julie Trotter Murray of Cornelia; grandsons, Jon Garner, Jeff Garner and Brett Downing; great grandchildren, Ashlyn Garner, Hannah Garner, Jace Jeffus, Ani Garner and Kassidy Murray.

A visitation will be held from 7-9 pm on Friday, July 17, 2009, at the funeral home.
