Clyde Wallace Simmons

Obituary Date: Friday, June 12, 2009
Funeral services for Clyde Wallace Simmons, age 76, of Clarkesville, will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2009, at 2:00 PM from the Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville. Rev. Kenneth Taylor will officiate with burial to follow the service in Hillside Gardens. Military honors will be provided by DAV Chapter 15, and the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720.

Mr. Simmons passed away Friday, June 12, 2009, following a period of declining health.

Born in Banks County on June 8, 1933, Mr. Simmons was the son of the late Garnett and Ina Eller Simmons. Clyde was employed with the Habersham County Sheriffs office for 26 years and he also served 20 years in the Georgia Army National Guard where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. Simmons worked for Clarkesville Police Department. Mr. Simmons was a member of Clarkesville Masonic Lodge #325 F&AM. During his off time, Clyde directed traffic on Sunday mornings at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Mr. Simmons also was an avid rabbit hunter and raised some of the finest Beagles in North Georgia. In addition to his parents Mr. Simmons is preceded in death by sisters Carol Simmons, Cozette Eller, and Reba Zimmerman, and brother Coy Simmons.

Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife Lucille Welborn Simmons of Clarkesville, son Keith W. Simmons and his wife Donna of Jefferson, daughters Andrea Simmons and Edwina Simmons both of Mt. Airy, step sons Clinton Jones and Darren Jones both of Demorest, Steven Jones of Cleveland, step daughters Charlene Jones and Carolee Jones bother of Clarkesville, brothers Roy Simmons of Demorest and Reece Simmons of Hollingsworth, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren, one step great grandchild, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Hillside Memorial Chapel, 5495 Highway 197 S, Clarkesville, on Saturday, June 13, 2009, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
