Mattie Kate Burgess Hardy

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mrs. Mattie Kate Burgess Hardy, age 95, of Jefferson, who passed away on Monday, June 1, 2009. Mrs. Hardy, born in Lincoln County, Georgia, was a daughter of the late, Emmanuel Burgess and the late, Annie Lizzie Bentley Burgess. She was a homemaker and a member of New Salem Baptist Church. Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by her husband: William Ralph Hardy; and daughters: Annie Catherine Hardy Moon; and Ruby Jean Hardy Danner.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law: Joyce and Saul White of Jefferson; Pearl and Clarence Kinney of Jefferson; daughter: Sandra Freeman of Decatur. Sons and daughters-in-law: Ralph Edgar and Janice Hardy of Albany; Thomas and Linda Hardy of Jefferson; John and Bessie Hardy of Statham; Kelvin and Patricia Hardy of Vallejo, CA. Five Sisters-in-law; and adopted daughter: Dorothy Hardy Victrum of Jefferson. Twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held 1 PM Thursday, June 4, 2009 from the New Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Hazell Quarrels and Rev. Michael Moon officiating. Mrs. Hardy will lie in state from 12 PM until the time of service at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The cortege will assemble 12:15 PM Thursday at 182 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Jefferson, GA 30549.
