Kenneth Wilford Grogan Sr., age 84, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2009 at Willow Wood Nursing Center in Gainesville following an extended illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Lakewood Baptist Church with internment to follow in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. The Dr. Tom Smiley, Reverend Bill McKinney, and Reverend Gene Brooks will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday, June 1, 2009 at Memorial Park Funeral Home North- Riverside Chapel form 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Mr. Grogan was born on November 26, 1924 to the late Herman Andrew and Monnie Hall Grogan in Dawson County. He graduated from Dawsonville High School then attended The University of Georgia. Mr. Grogan was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and served on the U.S.S. Piedmont in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Grogan in his earlier years worked in the poultry business before working in the floor covering business for many years and was the owner/operator of Gainesville Carpet Mart. Mr. Grogan was a charter member of Lakewood Baptist church where he served on the Deacon Board.
Mr. Grogan is survived by his wife, Charlotte Brock Grogan of Gainesville, his daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Jerry Bullard of Toccoa, his son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Edie Grogan Jr. of Gainesville, his grandson and wife, Trey and Mary Beth Snelson of Buford, his granddaughter, Alexandria Grogan of Gainesville, and his great-grandson, Parker Snelson of Buford.
