Octie Slaton

Octie Slaton, age 94, of Cornelia, GA, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at her residence following a sudden illness.


Mrs. Slaton was born on June 9, 1914 in Franklin County, Georgia to the late Lumuel and Rachel Morgan Kennedy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tyrus W. Slaton, her brothers, Thurmond Kennedy, Norman Kennedy, Clyde Kennedy, and Howard Kennedy, and her sisters, Emma Brown, Maybelle Slaton, Frankie Fulgum, Madge Lockhart, and Morene Haley.


Mrs. Slaton was a member of the Hunter's Creek Baptist Church. Before retirement, Mrs. Slaton was employed by Lumite Corporation, Standard Telephone Company, and Cornelia Broom Company.


Survivors include her daughters Bobbie White, Baldwin, GA; Merle Little, Gainesville, GA; her son Dr. Billy Slaton, Cornelia, GA; 9 grandchildren William Slaton, David Slaton, Cassandra DeVeau, Robert Slaton, Joe Kenyon, Michael Roach, Edward Roach, Will Smith, and Danny Smith; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2009 from the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia with Rev. Darvin Slaton officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.


The family will receive friends at the North Chapel from 5 until 8 p.m. on Friday.
