Ray Stagner, age 74 of Mt. Airy, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born in North Hollywood, California on June 13, 1934, he was the son of the late George Fredrick and Clara Love Stagner. He was retired as a maintenance supervisor and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Beaver, Oklahoma. He served his country proudly in the United States Airy Force and Navy during the Korean Conflict. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Lucille Petersen and brother, Cecil Stagner.
Surviving are wife, Frances Hefner Stagner of Mt. Airy; son, Fred Stagner of Mt. Airy; daughters and sons-in-law, Gale & Dale Waters of Cornelia and Deana & Phillip Boyd of Paulsbo, Washington; also surviving are five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services are 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 26, 2009, from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Rev. Cleve Allen officiating. Interment will follow in the V.F.W. Cemetery with Rev. Tony Goss officiating and full military honors provided by the Habersham County American Legion Post #84, the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15 and the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9 pm on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Odyssey Hospice, 855 Gaines School Road, Suite G, Athens, GA 30605.
