Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega announces the death of Mr. J.C. Chastain, age 57, of Murrayville who died Monday, May 11, 2009 at the Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega following a sudden illness.
Mr. Chastain was born in White County May 11, 1952, the son of the late Marvin and Ida May Farmer Chastain. He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Monteen Childress; and brothers, Leonard Chastain and Marvin Chastain. He lived most of his life in White and Lumpkin counties.
He owned and operated Chastain Trucking Company for over 30 years; and he and his wife owned and operated the Magic Wok Restaurant in Dahlonega.
Mr. Chastain was a member of the Browns Chapel Church and served in the United States Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Sophie Chastain of Murrayville; sons: Joseph Chastain and Joshua Chastain, both of Murrayville; daughters: Priscilla Dorsey of Habersham County; Susan Penley of North Carolina; sisters: Gleta Simmons of Toccoa, Georgia; Shirley Stroud of Texas; Hazel Oliver of Sautee, Georgia; Betty Harris of Marietta, Georgia;; Debbie May Jones of Homer, Georgia; and a number of relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. J. C. Chastain are scheduled for 2:00 PM Thursday, May 14, 2009 in the Chapel of Banister Funeral Home in Dalonega with Reverend John Dowdy and Reverend Junior Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery in White County.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 13, 2009.
