Betty Elizabeth Oyer

Betty Elizabeth Oyer, age 83 of 1025 Lakeshore Drive, Gainesville passed away at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Friday, May 8, 2009 following a sudden illness.
Mrs. Oyer was born on October 16, 1925 in Montpelier, Ohio to the late Charles and Grace Critchfield. After graduation, Betty worked as a secretary for the Wabash Railroad. She married Paul Oyer on November 27, 1947. They moved to Michigan and began farming as well as both working fulltime jobs. After retiring in 1973, Betty and Paul moved to Lake Placid, Florida and became ranchers. In 1984 they purchased a farm in Hall County and moved their daughter and her family as wee as their beefmaster cattle with them. Mrs. Oyer loved the outdoors and was never afraid of hard work. Having lived through two house fires, two tornadoes and two bouts of breast cancer, Betty knew the value of life and how precious it is. Always reminding her family, there is no life without faith. She fought long and hard to the end and chose to take his hand and walk down the path with him in peace. Betty was a friend and inspiration of strength and courage to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed, especially by her family.
Mrs. Oyer is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Oyer, her sister, Louise Johnson, her brother, Kenneth Critchfield, and infant son, David Oyer.
Mrs. Oyer is survued by her daughter, Marsha Johnson of Gainesville, her grand-daughter and husband, Jodi and Dan Caudill of Gainesville, her grandson, Aaron Johnson of Gainesville, her great granddaughter, Sarah Johnson, her great grandson, Daniel Parker Caudill, her sisters, Gracilee Siebenaler and Mary Lou Allman of Montpelier, Ohio, her brother, HH Critchfield of Forsyth, Illinois.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, 2009 in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Reverend J. Michael Pinson will officiate of Redwine Methodist Church. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 12, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Susan G. Koman, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, Texas 75244.
