Ed Marteny

Mr. Ed Marteny, of Dawsonville, GA, died Friday April 24, 2009 at his home.

Mr. Marteny was born in St. Joseph, MO Feb. 12, 1922, the son of the late Blanche Tee Wineland and John Thomas Marteny.

He graduated in 1941 from St. Joseph Jr. College with an Associate in Engineering degree and in 1943 from the University of Missouri with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Naval Ordnance Development Lab at Johns Hopkins University. He retired in 1973 after working for nearly 30 years for Lago Oil and Transport Co. in Aruba. In recent years he was a volunteer for Mended Hearts, Meals on Wheels, and the school mentoring program. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Ed will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Peggy; son John Marteny of Tusayan, AZ; daughter Ann Catherine and son-in-law Steve Miller of Seattle, WA; grandsons Taylor and Nicholas Miller; and sister, Catherine Smith of Leeâ
