Lawrence Perry, age 90 of Cornelia, passed away Friday, April 17, 2009, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born in Habersham County on August 21, 1918, he was the son of the late Phillip Jefferson and Lindy Adams Perry. He was the founder & owner of Perry Gas Company and served as Habersham County Coroner for 24 years. He was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church where he served as deacon, head usher and chairman of the counting committee. He was a kind, gentle and family oriented man, who enjoyed traveling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Riggins Perry; son, Virgil Ray Perry; brothers, Clarence Perry, Will Perry, Tom Perry, Floyd Perry, Carl Perry, Jeppy Perry and Paul Perry; sisters, Lorene Herrin, Emma Perry Smith, Mary Perry Miles, Vinnie Riggins, Eunice Hulsey, Lou Bell Harrison and Zelma Loudermilk.
Surviving are children and their spouses, Norma Jean & Bob Edwards of Cornelia, Roy & Kathy Perry of Demorest, Judy Perry Power of Cornelia and Stanley & Pat Perry of Demorest; he is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, April 19th, 2009, at Level Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Blaine Walker, Rev. Terry Rice and Rev. Brian James officiating. Interment will follow in Level Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 & 6-9 pm on Saturday.
