Marjorie Payne Wetzel

Mrs. Marjorie Payne Wetzel, of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at her residence following an extended illness.

Mrs. Wetzel was born in Pickens County to the late Joseph Barney and Mattie Gaddis Payne. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Ruby Anderson and Marcell Waters; brothers: Roy Payne and Frank Payne. Mrs. Wetzel was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army as a radio operator. She also retired as a radio operator with Eastern Air Lines. Mrs. Wetzel was a member of the Ladies Shrine organization in Miami Spring, FL and a member of Mossy Creek United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband: Robert Wetzel, Cleveland; daughter; Virginia Webb, Cleveland; grandson and granddaughter-in law: James & Stacie Webb, Dahlonega; granddaughter & grandson in law: Sharmi & Joseph Thor, Jonesboro; great grandsons: Graeme Webb and Malcolm Webb, both of Dahlonega; great grand-children: Ryan and Greg Thor, Jonesboro; 2 great great-grandsons: Landon Thor and Emerson Thor; sister: Ruth Jones, Ellijay and numerous nieces, nephews and friends that she considered family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Mossy Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nanci Hicks and Dr. Steve Midkiff officiating. Internment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
