Alexander Funeral Home announces the death of Mrs. Barbara Jeanette Lyerla of Cleveland. Mrs. Lyerla passed away Friday, April 3, 209 at her residence following an extended illness with pancreatic cancer. She was 72.
Mrs. Lyerla was born in Wewoka, Oklahoma on July 1, 1936. She taught school in DeKalb County before retiring and moving to White County. She was a member of the Soque Garden Club , the Recycled Teenagers exercise group, the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club, the Cleveland United Methodist Church, the Georgia Canoeing Association, the Roadtrek International Chapter and the Family Motor Coach Association. She enjoyed traveling, hiking, camping, working in her garden and being with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Dr. Craig Lyerla of Cleveland; daughters, Lee Ann Pierce and husband Ben Pierce of Lawrenceville, Jill L. Newcomer and husband Van Newcomer of The Woodlands, TX.; son, David M. Lyelra of Tucker; grandchildren, Monika and husband Kenny Williams, Mallory Pierce, Valerie, Craig and Brennen Newcomer; Mason and Maddox Lyerla
A memorial service will be held 11: 00AM, Friday, April 10, 2009 from the Cleveland United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Huycke officiating.
