Obituary Date: Tuesday, March 31, 2009
George Embry, age 91 of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Habersham County Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Fulton County on January 4, 1918, he was the son of the late Garland and Annie Mae Henderson Embry. Mr. Embry graduated from Tech High School in Atlanta in 1936 and afterwards attended Woodrow Wilson Law School. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Corp having been a personal pilot for General Jacob Devers and was also the Headquarters Pilot of the 12th Tactical Air Command. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he was the President and a Board Member of Charles Hope Sunday School Class. Mr. Embry was the owner and operator of Embry Office Supply. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by son, Daniel Garland Embry; sisters, Ann Zachary and Martha Corrigan; and brothers, Garland Embry, William L. Embry and Jack Embry.
Surviving are wife, Carolyn J. Embry of Demorest; sons and daughters-in-law, Doug & Charlene Embry of Cleveland and George David, Jr. & Ginger Embry of Ball Ground; brother, Douglas Wycoff Embry of Cumming; also surviving are seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, April 2, 2009, from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. James Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Wednesday. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the charity of oneâ
