Helen Elrod Collins

Helen Elrod Collins, age 75 of Demorest, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009, at her residence following an extended illness.


Born in Habersham County on November 12, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lizzie Irvin Elrod. Ms. Collins worked with Carwood Manufacturing and Fieldale Farms. She was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Levis, James and Kenneth Elrod and a sister, Mary Elrod.


Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and David Boisclair of Alto; daughter, Carolyn Moody of Demorest; son, Danny Collins of Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, David and Karen Collins of Demorest; brother, Vernon Elrod of Cornelia; sisters, Margie Morris of Cornelia and Shirley Moss of Cleveland; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 29, 2009 from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Royce Winters and Rev. Luther Williams officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Saturday. The family is at the residence. The family would also like to express their sincere appreciation to the Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center for their special care for Ms. Collins.
