Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Road, announces the death of Walter Eugene Broom, age 74 of Lebanon Church Road, Gillsville, Georgia, who passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, March 28, 2009 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with Reverend Grady White, Reverend Alvin Loggins and Reverend Mike Gaines officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2009.
Mr. Broom was born March 01, 1935 in Hall County to the late Emory Broom, Sr. and Evalon Smith Broom.
He served in the Army during the Vietnan War as a Sergeant First Class. Mr. Broom also retired from the State of South Carolina School Systerm; was a member of Forrest Acre #410 Masonic Lodge in South Carolina; and a member of Springway Baptist Church.
Mr. Broom was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bennie Broom, Mark Broom, Elmer Broom and Jerry Broom, and one sister, Bessie Broom Newberry.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Cruce Broom of Gillsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Diane Broom of Columbia, South Carolina; Marco and Angelia Broom of Elgin, South Carolina; Bobby Jr. and Joy Cruce of Gainesville; Edward and Amy Cruce of Gainesville; and Luther and Anna Broom of Murrayville; sisters, Kattie Cochran of Gainesville; Martha Loggins and Alvin of Gainesville; Lila Gaines and Doug of Gainesville; Louise Thompson Maldanado of Gainesville; grandchildren, Austin Broom, Cameron Broom, Jake Broom, Kirsten Broom, Justin Cruce, Joseph Cruce, Ryan Meadows and Sam Meadows; one great grandchild, Branon Reece Dukes; brother-in-law, Winston Gaines of Gainesville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
