W. Gartrell Roberts

W. Gartrell Roberts, age 92, of Clarkesville passed away, Friday, March 13, 2009, following a period of declining health.

Born in Habersham County on June 5, 1916, Mr. Roberts was a lifelong member of Cool Springs United Methodist Church. He was the son of the late Carl and Mamie Hames Roberts, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Percy (Tannie) Allen.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Ruby Lockman Roberts, son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Janice Roberts of Demorest, daughters and sons-in-law Carolyn and Charles Church of Demorest, Annette and Tommy Fricks of Mt. Airy, and a sister Mrs. Eugene (Vivian) Hill of Clarkesville. Mr. Roberts is also survived by four grandchildren and spouses Phil Roberts, Cheryl and Daryl McDuffie of Clarkesville, Todd and Natalie Fricks and Trent and Christy Fricks of Mt. Airy, and by four great grandchildren, Dustin Fricks, Dawson Fricks, Carlin Fricks, and Camryn Fricks.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 16, 2009 in the Chapel of Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with Rev. Garvis Kinsey and Rev. Charles Black officiating. Burial will be in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 15, 2009 from 2:00 until 4:00 and from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
