Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. James Eugene Moore, age 87, of Athens, who passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2009. Mr. Moore, born in Jackson County, was a son of the late James W. Moore and the late Ellis Crumley Moore. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre. Mr. Moore worked as a Supervisor with Jackson Electric Membership Corporation, retiring after 35 years of service; and was a member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Waters Moore; granddaughter, Melody Carroll; sister, Frances Stringer; and brother, Vernard Moore.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Frank Morton of Athens, Butch Archer of Athens, raised in the home as a son, step-daughter, Shirley Taylor of Nicholson, grandchildren, Melissa Archer, Jamey and Davey Archer, and Kristy Taylor.
Funeral Services will be held 4 PM Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Crooked Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Miles, Rev. Bill Carpenter, Rev. Ronnie Healan, and Rev. Kevin Purcell officiating. The body will lie in state from 3 until 4 pm at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jay Nelms, Johnny Nelms, Dean Stringer, Jake Stringer, Davey Archer, and Jamey Archer.
Flowers are optional and memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 367 Athens, GA 30603-0367; Vista Care Hospice, 150 Ben Burton Road Bogart, GA 30622; or the Friends of the State Botanical Garden, 2450 S.Milledge Avenue Athens, GA 30605.
