Virginia Louise Tatum

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mrs. Virginia Louise Tatum, age 84, of Jefferson, Georgia, who passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009. She was born in Gainesville, Georgia, to the late, Styles and Leola Buffington. Mrs. Tatum was a well-known cook, an avid gardener, and a devoted mother and grandmother. She grew up in the Lebanon Methodist Church, Gainesville; and was a member of Galilee Christian Church in Jefferson. Mrs. Tatum and her husband moved to Jefferson prior to 1948 where he worked at the Jefferson Mills. She was preceded in death by her husband: Carl V. Tatum; and sister: Mattie Lee Arnold of Jefferson, as well as four brothers and an additional sister. Survivors include her sons: Douglas R. Tatum of Watkinsville; Terry M. Tatum of Commerce; Carl Randall Tatum of Jefferson; and Rick Tatum of Athens. Three daughters-in-law; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

A Celebration of her life will be held 2 PM Thursday, March 12, 2009 from the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Rev. Vaughn Howington officiating. Interment will follow in Jackson Memorial Park, Commerce. Serving as pallbearers will be: Tony Tatum, Andrew Tatum, Mike Tatum, Brock Tatum, Austin Tatum, Brad Martin, and Greg Sullivan.
