Winfred Eugene (Shorty) Day

Mr. Winfred Eugene (Shorty) Day, age 71 of Cumming, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009 with his family and friends by his side.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Floria Dean Day; daughter and son-in-law Jean and Wendell Landrum; grandson Tracy Landrum all of Cumming; sisters and brothers-in-law Eloise and Harold Sweatman, Frances and Bill McGuire; sister-in-law Betty Day all of Alpharetta; brothers and sisters-in-law Chuck and Jo Gunter, Marc and Sharon Gunter; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Betty Ann and L.T. Meeks of Cumming; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a large extended family. Shorty was known as "Pops" who loved his extended family and was loved by all. Shorty went to work for Gordy Tire Company at the age of 16, where he worked until 1970 when he opened Day's Tire Service in Alpharetta. He was co-founder of North Fulton Rescue and served on the Auxiliary Police Department of Alpharetta. Shorty sold his tire service in 1987 and began building houses with his brother-in-law. He later retired and moved back to Cumming. Shorty was an exceptional man that never met a stranger and was loved by all that met him. His presence will be greatly missed but he will remain in our hearts forever.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Saturday 10:00 am until hour of service at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7th at 2:00 pm at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony Allen and Rev. Jackie Martin, officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Roswell, GA.
