Wendell L. Gunn

Wendell L. Gunn, age 76, of Mt. Airy. GA and formerly of Dunedin, FL and Lexington, KY, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at his residence.

Mr. Gunn was born on September 14, 1932 in Stonewall, Mississippi to the late, Christopher Clayburn and Lorena Logan Gunn. He was a graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. Mr. Gunn was a retired Senior Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer at the Kentucky Central Life Insurance Company with 28 years of service. While in Lexington, he served as a Board Chairman with the Lexington Public Library. He was a United States Navy veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Gunn was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cornelia. He was the Vice-President of the Joseph Habersham Chapter, Georgia Society, Sons of the American Revolution; there he served in the Color Guard and was active in the Elementary School Program. Mr. Gunn was a Board Member of the Northwoods Neighborhood Association and a Board Member of the Habersham Christian Learning Center. While living in Dunedin, FL, Mr. Gunn served as President of the Dunedin County Club, was an active member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Dunedin, FL, and an active member of the Dunedin Rotary Club.

Survivors include: his wife: Roberta Ashmore Gunn, Mt. Airy, GA; his daughters and sons-in-law: Leslie and Randy Darr, Homosassa, FL; Katherine and Corbett Kloster, Clarkesville, GA: his grandchildren: Sarah Darr, Elizabeth Darr, Kit Kloster, and Lolly Kloster.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2009 from the First Presbyterian Church of Cornelia with Rev. Blaine Walker officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday.
