Walter Harrison Rucker, Sr.

Walter Harrison Rucker, Sr. passed away Friday, February 13, 2009 following a long illness.



Born July 17, 1926 in Elbert County, Georgia, he spent most of his adult life in Forsyth County, making it his home for over 50 years.



He was preceded in death by his parents, James Harrison Rucker and Lillian Burris Rucker of Elberton and sister, Eleanor Rucker Buchanan and her husband, Jack, also of Elberton. He was a direct descendent of Joseph Rucker of Ruckersville, GA



After graduating Middleton High School in Elberton, GA, he attended North Georgia Tech to become a radio operator and used his skills while serving on the USS Arkansas in WWII, when he enlisted in the Navy at age 18. He was also in the Army Reserves for a number of years following WWII. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, earning his Masterâ
