Louie Eugene Dean, Sr.

Funeral services for Louie Eugene Dean, Sr., age 86, of Clarkesville will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2009, at 2:00 PM from the Hillside Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bobby Gastley officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Dean passed away Friday, February 13, 2009.

Born in Greeneville, South Carolina on January 10, 1923, Mr. Dean was the son of the late Clayton Dugan and Lizzy Beth Evans Dean. Mr. Dean was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and was a United States Army World War II Veteran. While in the service, Mr. Dean was an Army News Photographer. He was a sports photographer at Clemson University and also taught photography at North Georgia Technical College. Mr. Dean was a past fire chief in the City of Clarkesville and he was also a special investigator for the Habersham County Sheriffs Office. Mr. Dean retired from Lee Arrendale State Prison. In addition to his parents Mr. Dean is preceded in death by sisters Agnes Dean, Hazel Cooper, Sue Ellen Spencer, and Mattie Lou Whitted.

Survivors include his wife Irene Haney Dean, daughter Leatha Dean, daughter and son in law LaRue and Bobby Gastley, son and daughter in law Louie, Jr. and Marlene Dean, all of Clarkesville, grandsons and their wives Tab and Teresa Dean, Todd and Brenda Dean and Kayle and Dana Gastley, grandson Rodney McAllister, granddaughters and husbands Tarra an Danny Franklin and Keyla and Scott Carson.
