Bennie Lee Patton

Bennie Lee Patton, age 74, of Cornelia, GA passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the residence of his daughter.

Mr. Patton was born on March 12, 1934 in Habersham County, GA to the late Gordon and Lucy Patton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Willis Patton, daughter, Maxine Varnes and 2 grandchildren. Mr. Patton was a member at the Demorest Church of God. He was retired from the Civil Service, United States Forestry Service with 35 years of service. Mr. Patton was formerly employed by Fieldale Farms. After his retirement, Mr. Patton was a very active volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Patton and Bobby Lee Williams, Cornelia, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Rocky Potts and Sheliah Potts, Martin, GA; sister, Julie Patton Smith, Cleveland, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond Patton and Betty Patton, Cornelia, GA; 8 grandchildren, Heath & April Williams, Cleveland, GA; Michael Varnes, Jason Varnes, Natasha Varnes, and Stephanie Varnes, all of Franklin County, GA; Chelsey Quick, Baldwin, GA; Mitchell Varnes, Martin, GA; 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the Demorest Church of God with Rev. William Cox and Rev. Johnny Willis officiating. Interment will follow in the Level Grove Cemetery.

The family will received friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA from 2-4 & 7-9 pm Friday, February 13, 2009.
