John Richard (Dick) Yates

Mr. John Richard (Dick) Yates, age 84 of Cumming, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2009. Mr. Yates was a Navy Veteran of World War II where he received a Purple Heart. During his service years he was a middle weight boxing champion. He was an Alumni of Indiana State University. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Shriner and on the Board of High Hope School for Challenge Children. He was a volunteer of the Red Cross and Salvation Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clayton Edward and Hazel Geneva Yates; 2 sisters Rosemary Yates and Irma Yates Brummett; and a nephew Matthew Brent Burdette.

Survivors include his nieces and nephews Sue David, Bev Chafey, Kevin Burdette, Thad Burdette, Tracey Fuzesi and Greg Brummett all of Indiana; 12 great nieces and nephews; many great great nieces and nephews; his local family Ron and Donna O'Neal and their children Veronica and Alexandra; Alan O'Neal and Elaine O'Neal and their daughter Alyson O'Neal Mitchell and her children McKenzie and Reese Mitchell.

Memorial service will be held Wednesday at 4:00 pm at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Howard Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends at 3:30 pm on Wednesday.
