Rev. Y.D. Thompson, age 79, of Cleveland, GA died Saturday January 3, 2009 at the Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega, GA following a short illness.
Rev. Thompson was born in Hall County, GA October 13, 1929 and had lived in Hall County most of his life. He retired from Georgia Chair Company and had also worked at the Lumpkin County Park and Rec Department and at Wal Mart in Dahlonega. He was a member of Christian Baptist Church in Hall County. He was a Baptist minister for a number of years and had served as pastor at Enon Baptist Church in Dahlonega.
He was the son of the late Melvin and Zona Maude Carroll Thompson and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Brown Thompson; sisters, Cora Mae Brady and Fannie Thompson.
Rev. Thompson is survived by his wife, Girlie Turner Thompson, Cleveland, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Rev. John Bryant, Gainesville, GA, Debbie and Preston Seabolt, Clermont, GA; stepchildren and spouses, Rev. Eugene and Wanda Turner, Murrayville, GA, June and Homer Thomas, Cleveland, GA, Pam Dowdy, Dahlonega, GA, Vickie and Rex Dowdy, Gainesville, GA. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends survive.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 PM Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at the Christian Baptist Church in Hall County. Rev. Bill Trotter and Rev. Kenneth Pilcher will officiate.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 7 PM until 9 PM and all day on Monday.
