Mrs. Ondia Dee (Loggins) Dodd, age 75, of Oconee Circle, Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Monday, August 11, 2008 at her residence following an extended illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 pm Thursday, August 14, 2008 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow at Mt. Zion Methodist Church Cemetery in Alto. The Reverend Grady White, Kenneth Ledford and Reverend Fred Patton will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 to9 pm Tuesday, August 12, 2008 and Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Dodd was born in Lumpkin County, Georgia and was the daughter of the late Fred J. Loggins and Bertha (Cook) Loggins. She was a member of East View Baptist Church. Mrs. Dodd was co-owner of the Square Deal Tax Service for 34 years with her sister Connie Broome. She was crowned Hall County Possum Queen in 1973 during a fundraiser for the Hall County Humane Society. She was a Beloved Wife, Mother, "Granny" "Gran-dee"(named by great-grandson, Dillon Harrell), Sister, Aunt and Friend. She was a gifted poet and songwriter, penning and recording the song "Truck Driving Beaver". She also sang with "The Georgia Gentlemen" Band and was the former owner of "The Boondocks". Along with her many talents she was also an avid CB'er and was known by the handle "Pocahontas". She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Loggins; mother, Bertha (Cook) Loggins Gragg; daughter, Peggy Brown; grandson, Darrin Brown; great-grandson, Shane Buffington; and a great-granddaughter, Carrie Harrell; brothers, O'Brian "Tarzan" Loggins; and Elmo Loggins; sister, Willie Mae McDougald; nephews, Floyd "Hippy" McDougald; and Wayne Loggins.
Mrs. Dodd is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Ray Dodd; daughters, Patsy Howard, Gillsville; Marie Ramey, Maysville; Kathy Ledford, Oakwood; and Katie Crane, Gainesville; step-children, Bobby Crane, Toccoa; Sue Brown, Lavonia; and Ellene Standridge, Toccoa; sons-in-law, Debris Brown, Gainesville; Jr. Bruce, Maysville; and Ray Diaz, Oakwood; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Connie and Dan Broome, Lula; and Altonia and Robert Eason, Carrollton; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends also survive.
