Charlie W. Dowdy

Mr. Charlie W. Dowdy, 88, of Cleveland, formerly of Buford, passed away on May 14, 2005. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tyeophers "Tyea" Smallwood Dowdy in 2005.
Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Pat Dowdy, Cleveland, Jimmy and Linda Dowdy, Kennesaw, Kenneth and Sandra Dowdy, Flowery Branch; grandchildren, Deedee Stephens, Scott Dowdy, Chuck Dowdy, Russ Dowdy, Jennifer Ettenger, Stephanie Blackledge and Kimberly Doster; nine great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah Baker, Gainesville, Nell Spruill, Norcross, and Doris and Elwood Slade, Piedmont, S.C.; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Wanda Dowdy, Gainesville; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Mrs. Mamie Dowdy, Chestnut Mountain, Mrs. Ethel Pierce, Gainesville, Mrs. Mary Sanders, Oakwood, and Mrs. Lillie and Lewis Hughes, Oakwood; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Dowdy was a native of Hall County. He retired in 1972 from General Motors Assembly Plant and was a member of UAW Local 10. He was a member of Flowery Branch Masonic Lodge 212 F&AM. He was a member of Mount Salem Baptist Church in Flowery Branch. He was the former owner of Dowdy Used Cars in Buford. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.
Funeral service will be on Monday, May 16, 2005, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Peace and the Rev. Selmon Gilleland officiating. Interment will be in Mount Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Flowery Branch. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m.
