Rev. Colie Emmett Dale

The Rev. Colie Emmett Dale, age 64, of Gillsville died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at his home from an extended illness. A native of Hall County, the Rev. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Hoyt Dale and Betty Cape Dale; and brother-in-law, Clyde Martin.
The Rev. Dale, a graduate of East Hall High School, retired from General Motors in 2001. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army at a missile base in Missouri, working with guard dogs from 1959-62. On Oct. 12, 1975, he was ordained into the ministry at Timber Ridge Baptist Church in Hall County, later to serve as pastor of the following churches: Bethlehem Baptist Church, Lula; Enon Baptist Church, Alto: Belton Baptist Church, Lula, where he served twice; Silver Shoals Baptist Church, Homer; and Mount Zion Baptist Church, Cleveland. Throughout his ministry, he served on various mission trips, including eight to Jamaica.
Emmett was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved nature; fishing and deer hunting were his favorite pastimes. How fitting for the Lord to call him home in the fall, his most favorite season. His work with the youth in his community and church will always be cherished memories. The family, friends and community will greatly miss the laughter and fun, but most of all the true wisdom and love bestowed on us all by the Rev. Emmett Dale.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Humphries Dale, Gillsville; sons, Scotty Dale and Josh Dale, both of Gainesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Lori and Greg Armour, Gillsville, and Tammi and Chris Hulsey, Lula; nine grandchildren, Baranda Dale Buffington, Whittney Dale, Weston Dale, Conner Dale, Dylan Armour, Brittany Bonds Herrin, Matthew Bonds, Bethany Bonds and Devon Hulsey. Three great-grandchildren, Cade Herrin, Emme Herrin and Kole Buffington; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Sherry Dale; sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Alton Kemp, sister, Betty Ann Martin; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Royce and Peggy Head; aunts and uncles, Ruffin and Lois Ladd; Benny Cape; Sonny and Imogene Clark; Nell Dale and Randall Gailey. He also is survived by a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and other relatives.
A celebration of Emmett's life will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005, at Timber Ridge Baptist Church, Gainesville. The Rev. Ruel Martin will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Dean Bryant, the Rev. Kenneth Barrett, the Rev. Chris York and the Rev. Anthony Cook. All other ministers are requested to serve as honorary pallbearers. His body will lie in state at the church from 3:30 to 4 p.m. Interment will be in the church cemetery following the service.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005.
